From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes
Objectives
- Make a claim: Where do plants get the materials they need for growth?
- Gather evidence: Choose one of three experiments:
- Air
- Water
- Soil
- Sunlight
- Describe the evidence: Is your claim confirmed or refuted on the basis of the evidence?
- Whether a particular material is required or not for growth of plants
- Whether a particular material may provide sufficient matter to account for an observed increase in height of a plant during growth
- Draw conclusions: What do you conclude from all the results obtained from each experiment?
Modules
Make a ClaimWhat: Lets discuss what we know about plant growth (30 minutes)
When: Due Oct. 1st How: Make a claim and form research teams |
Gather Evidence What: Search for information regarding photosynthesis, review the experiment, and present the findings (over the next two weeks)
When: Due Oct 15th How: Depending on your role, work as a group to conduct the experiment |
Describe the EvidenceWhat: Compare your own findings with the height measurements conducted over 3 time periods (1 hour)
When: Due Oct 22nd How: Compare your findings to others and share the results with the class |
Draw ConclusionsWhat: Present your findings and draw your own conclusions (over one week)
When: Due Oct 29th How: Present your findings and draw conclusions in a video presentation to the class |
